Demetria Green anchors Â鶹app Morning News weekdays starting at 4:30 a.m.

Demetria was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, where she was inspired by award-winning journalists and their desire to tell compelling stories. She hopes to continue that legacy by pursuing the truth, while shining a light on our community’s successes and challenges.

Her work has received several honors, including an Associated Press award for Best Series on “Alabama’s Immigration Debate.â€

Prior to joining Â鶹app, Demetria was the morning news anchor at PHL17 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. While there, she played a vital role in expanding the morning news coverage to highlight mental health issues, educational woes, and people supporting each other in the face of adversity. Demetria was so moved by the community, that she started a mentorship group for elementary students.

This is Demetria’s second stint at WAAY31.

She was previously the evening anchor and reporter. During that time, Demetria hosted the red carpet at the Country Music Awards in Nashville, reported live in Atlanta, Georgia, when Alabama won the National Championship Game in 2018, and flew to Washington, D.C., to press politicians on local issues.

Before that, she was the morning anchor at WTVY in Dothan, Alabama.

Demetria is a member of the National Association for Black Journalists and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She is a proud alumna of both Florida A&M University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Governor’s State University with a Master’s Degree in Communications.

In her spare time, she serves as an adjunct instructor at Calhoun Community College.

Demetria lives in Huntsville with her husband and two children.
