Thursday is a 31 Alert Day for the threat of strong and severe storms.Â
This afternoon, pockets of heavier rain and one of two thunderstorms will start to develop before a brief late afternoon lull. By the time you are heading home from work, though dinnertime and into bedtime tonight, that is when the line with the greatest potential of severe weather will be entering the region.
The line starts in the Shoals at 7pm, makes it just east of I-65 by midnight, and moves into Sand Mountain and starts to break apart by 3am Friday morning.Â
The greatest threats at 45+ mph winds, 1-4+ inches of rain (locally higher amounts), and a low end chance for tornadoes.
Friday brings on-again, off-again scattered rain and storms and an additional level 1/5 risk for severe weather. Friday is not presently a 31 Alert Day.Â
