When the upper atmosphere gets especially cold, because it is so far from the heat source, aka the surface, the water freezes, but not just in a circular ice shape, in a hexagonal shape.

As a result, the sunlight is bent, but here's the thing, it's bent at exactly 22 degrees as it passes through the crystal and to our eyes.
