A Sheffield mother was arrested Tuesday on an aggravated child abuse charge.

According to court documents, Ashley Elizabeth Jones allegedly tried to drown her 10-year-old son in a bathtub along with biting/hitting him, as well as throwing bleach on him and locking him in a closet.

Police received a report Sunday claiming a boy's mother had been physically abusing him the week before, documents say.

When police and a Colbert County Department of Human Resources on-call worker went to speak with the boy, documents show he explained his mom threw bleach on him after he made a statement wishing he lived with his father. The boy claimed he went to take a bath to wash the bleach off, and his mother came in and shoved his face underwater. The boy then stated he pretended to "play dead" to get her to stop. He explained she proceeded to lock him in a closet for what he believed to be a few hours.

Documents state he showed police multiple scrapes and bruises on his body, which he also claimed came from his mother.

When Jones was asked to come in to speak about the accusations, documents say she told them she was on the way but never showed up. Police then issued a "be on the lookout" for her vehicle.

Jones was located on Monday and documents state she denied all the allegations.

Jones was booked into jail on Tuesday with a $50,000 bond. She bonded out the same day.
