The Arab Police Department says two people were arrested after a kidnapping that took place over the weekend.

Eighteen-year-old Clayton Calahan and 21-year-old Jesse Ryan Fain Jr. were both charged with kidnapping in the second degree.

Police say dispatch received a call Saturday after 5:30 p.m. from Morgan County 911 saying someone texted to inform them they were taken to a home on 2nd Street NE in Arab.

When officers arrived at the home, police say they made contact with the male victim who was handcuffed and sitting in the living room.

Officers say they also identified two male suspects at the residence as Calahan and Fain. Arab Police Chief Washburn confirmed everyone involved in this incident are acquaintances.

Officers spoke with the victim, who stated the offenders came to his residence in Decatur and told him they were going to take him to his girlfriend's house so they can work their relationship out.

The victim stated one of the suspects had a handgun on his person but did not threaten him. Police say the gun turned out to be an air pistol.

The victim stated they placed handcuffs on him so he wouldn’t attack them as they took him to his girlfriend's house.

According to police, the victim stated he was able to retrieve his phone because the offenders had handcuffed him in front of his body.

“So the victim gets into the vehicle with the two suspects, handcuffed in the front, they come to Arab and as they get in he realizes it’s not the direction of his girlfriend's residence," Washburn said.

“I was kind of shocked that they actually did go get him and the lengths they went to as far as handcuffing him and bringing him back to see his girlfriend. That’s very unusual," Washburn continued. "You usually wouldn’t do that for someone that would just want to talk with their girlfriend, so yeah I was very alarmed at the situation."

The victim was unharmed, according to Washburn.

Washburn says this is only the second kidnapping situation he's dealt with in over 20 years.

“This is something very infrequent," Washburn said. "I know that we had a call a few months ago about an attempted kidnapping. Both of those incidences are very uncommon in this area."

Calahan and Fain were booked into the Marshall County Jail. Both of their bonds were set at $15,000.
