We've all heard friends and neighbors, or maybe even said ourselves "The weather must be changing! My knee and ankle hurt and I've got a headache!." But is there really any truth at all to statements like those?
Actually....yes! And more than you might think.
Many start to feel aches and pains and get headaches when the weather takes us on a roller coaster ride, but the real culprit is a rapid decrease in barometric pressure.
Barometers measure barometric pressure and when rain and storms are introduced into a forecast, or a rapid change in temperature takes place, that pressure drops quickly. In North Alabama and Southern Tennessee, this week, we'll see much lower temperatures and an influx of rain and storms so you can bet our pressure is about to plummet.
When the atmospheric pressure changes, so does our internal pressure, specifically blood pressure. Low barometric pressure can also lead to flare ups in already arthritic joints, swelling of tendons and muscles causing pain, and even migraines.
Friday morning will see the lowest barometric pressure of the week which means it will likely be the "achiest" day of the week...go ahead and plan ahead.
However, here's a fun little fact, when we experience cooler temperatures and an increase in barometric pressure at the same time, it tends to lead to better fishing conditions. So if you're looking for the perfect day to be out on the water, Saturday evening is your best bet.
