Anello Answers It: April 8 Total Eclipse Explained

The first two things you need to understand is that there will be two types of shadows cast on April 8 for the Eclipse. The first is the Penumbra, or the partial shadow. This will cover much of the United States, including the Tennessee Valley. The second shadow is the Umbra, or full shadow. This area is what creates the Path of Totality and it will not cover North Alabama or Southern Tennessee.

The Path of Totality stretches from central Texas to western Maine and it will be closest to our region as it crosses over the Arkansas/Missouri state line. This will occur at roughly 3pm on April 8th and our area will be in the 90% darkness sector.
