Alabama A&M University educator guides young men and women into successful careers

Dr. Horace Carney

In this Black History Month feature, we are focusing on a man who guides young men and women into successful careers.

As chairman of the Visual, Performing and Communication Arts Department at Alabama A&M University, Dr. Horace Carney has been responsible for the education and training of hundreds of students each semester for over three decades.

“You need to have a passion for what you’re doing because you can’t stay in this business and really do what you’re doing unless you have a passion for it that keeps you going,†said Carney.

Carney’s roots began in Nashville and his career has allowed him to study music all over the United States.

Under his direction, students have advanced in careers in communications and art, but the biggest accolades come from his achievements in music.

As for the future? Carney is preparing for a major increase in student population at the university.

Carney supports this motto each day: Start here, go anywhere.

During the month of February, Â鶹app is honoring the achievements and legacy of African Americans in North Alabama. For more on Black History Month, click HERE.
